What can I do about Chewing ?

You have to teach your puppy what is acceptable to chew on and what isn't. Catching your puppy is key, when chewing on his toys, make it part of your playtime.  Hide new toys around the house for the puppy to find. Kong is a great toy, fill it with peanut butter, or some other delight and he will have fun with this for hours.  

I know you did this but didn't catch you.  do not reprimand, this will only make them fearful as they dont' know what they are being punished for.

.   Ah Ha, caught you, now what?   this is a great opportunity to correct and redirect. Your voice reprimand should be short, sharp and immediate. "Off, find your chew toy" is enough of a reprimand. Through your tone of voice your dog knows you're upset, but also will learn how to get out of trouble. Continue to direct your dog to his chew toy. Once he picks it up, immediately lavish praise on him. Within a couple of repetitions of this exercise, the dog will start seeking out acceptable items to chew on.

An alternative if the above fails, take a small amount of Vaseline and put it on the item the puppy just can't seem to stay away from, sprinkle some cayenne or red pepper on the vaseline, this should help, you could also use Apple Bitters  (usually found at your local Vet's) a taste they hate.

Can I train my husky?

You bet you can, I had my 14 year old Mischka Blue trained to walk off lead, but it took patience, and consistency every day for 9 months, but worth every ounce of effort I put it into it.  She did not bolt at the site of another dog or animal, she stayed by my side. This is what is meant by being a successful husky owner, it all hinges on the owner and their persistance, the husky is only as good as they are trained by their master!

Can I use Invisible fencing?

This will not contain your husky, don't waste your money.  Use,a high grade of tinsel fencing or wood fencing, buried in the ground at least 1/2 foot, or chicken wire layed flat along the interior of the fence covered by dirt or some sort of timbers, railroad ties or whatever you can find to at least make them dig a little farther and deeper and hopefully you will catch them before they get out!

What can I do about digging?
Not much, but here is a tip: fill the holes with straw and cover with dirt, they have a tendacy not to dig these hole again, guaranteed? No, nothing is a guarantee with a husky.

How often should I bathe my husky?

About 2 times a year, if you bathe them more than that they lose the essential oils in their coat. There is always an exception to this rule, they run into a skunk, or rotten food left in the woods, dead fish, all dogs love to roll in it, pew.

How do I switch to a new dog food?

Very slowly, too quick of a change and they get the trots, start with a 75/25 ratio of old to new food and reduce/increase old to new about every 3 days till you get to 100% of the new food.

Can my puppy have too much water?

Dogs should always have water to drink, and some will gulp it down as if there were never going to get more. As they age they tend to outgrow this and learn that the water will always be there for them, so they can leave some in the bowl.
